Accessing Settings in Google Meet

Published in Google Meet Settings 3 mins read

You can change your camera settings in Google Meet by accessing the settings menu, typically found before joining a meeting or while you are in one. This menu allows you to select your preferred camera and audio devices, and as seen in the referenced video on "Camera & Audio Settings," you can also test your microphone and speakers here.

You have two main ways to get to your camera and audio settings:

  1. Before Joining a Meeting: On the pre-joining screen, look for a gear icon or a "Check your audio and video" link. Clicking this will open the settings panel.
  2. During a Meeting: Click on the three vertical dots (More options) icon, usually found in the bottom toolbar. From the menu that appears, select "Settings".

Changing Camera Settings

Once the settings panel is open, you'll typically see tabs for "Audio" and "Video" (or sometimes combined).

  • Navigate to the Video tab.
  • Here, you can select your desired camera from a dropdown list under the "Camera" section. This is useful if you have multiple cameras connected to your computer (like a built-in webcam and an external USB camera).
  • Depending on the Meet version and your device, you might also find options related to video resolution or lighting adjustments in this section.

Adjusting Audio Settings (As Seen in Reference)

The same settings panel also manages your audio, which the referenced video segment highlights.

  • Switch to the Audio tab within the settings panel.
  • Microphone: Choose your input device from the "Microphone" dropdown. If you have multiple microphones, such as a headset mic and a built-in mic, you can select the one you want Meet to use.
  • Speakers: Select your output device from the "Speakers" dropdown.
  • Testing Audio: As mentioned in the referenced "Camera & Audio Settings" video segment, this area allows you to test your devices. You can specifically test your speakers and microphones to ensure they are working correctly before or during your call.

By using these settings, you can customize your Google Meet experience to use the camera and audio devices that best suit your needs.
