To change your background in Google Meet, you'll need to apply visual effects during a meeting. Here's how:

Steps to Change Your Google Meet Background

Follow these steps to successfully modify your Google Meet background:

  1. Hover over your self-view: When in a Google Meet call, move your mouse cursor over your own video feed (the small box that shows what your camera is capturing).
  2. Click "Apply visual effects": In the center of your self view, you'll see the option to click Apply visual effects. Alternatively, you can click More options (usually represented by three dots), then select Apply visual effects from the menu.
  3. Navigate to "Backgrounds": Once you've clicked “Apply visual effects”, a menu will appear on the right hand side of the screen. Here, click the Backgrounds tab.
  4. Choose your background: Scroll through the available backgrounds, select the one you want to use, and it will be applied to your video feed instantly.
  5. Adjust and Stack Effects: You can also experiment with other visual effects found in different categories of the menu and even stack multiple effects to customize your look further.

By following these steps, you can easily change your Google Meet background. You can select a static image or blur your background completely. This ensures your meetings can be visually appealing and maintain a degree of privacy.
