To delete SMS messages in Google Messages, follow these steps:
-
Open Google Messages: Launch the Google Messages app on your Android device.
-
Select Conversations: Find the conversation(s) you want to delete. You can select one or multiple conversations.
-
Delete: Tap and hold on the conversation(s) you want to delete. A toolbar will appear at the top. Tap the Delete icon (usually a trash can).
-
Confirm (if prompted): A confirmation message might appear asking if you're sure you want to delete the conversation(s). Confirm your decision.
Important Considerations:
- Deletion is permanent: Deleting a conversation removes it from your device. This action is usually irreversible, so be sure you want to delete it before proceeding.
- Archive vs. Delete: Be aware of the difference between archiving and deleting. Archiving removes the conversation from your main inbox but keeps it stored for future reference. Deleting permanently removes the conversation.
- Cloud Backup: If you have SMS backup enabled (through Google Drive or another service), the deleted messages might still exist in your cloud backup. Check your backup settings and delete them there as well if you want to remove them completely.
- Individual Messages: You can also delete individual messages within a conversation. Open the conversation, long-press the specific message, and tap the Delete icon.
