How to Edit a Drawing in Google Sheets

Published in Google Sheets Drawing 2 mins read

Editing drawings in Google Sheets is straightforward, primarily involving selecting the element and using simple drag actions.

## Basic Steps for Editing Drawing Elements

To modify shapes, lines, or text boxes that you've added to your Google Sheets canvas, follow these fundamental steps based on the type of edit you wish to perform:

1. **Select the Element:** On the drawing canvas, begin by clicking the specific shape, line, or text box that you want to change. This action selects the element and typically displays handles (blue boxes or dots) around it.

2. **Perform the Desired Edit:** Once the element is selected, you can perform various modifications:
    * **Move a shape, line, or text box:** Simply **drag** the selected element to its new location on the canvas.
    * **Resize a shape or text box:** Click and **drag the blue boxes** located at the corners or sides of the shape/text box to change its dimensions.
    * **Rotate a line:** Click and **drag the blue dots** found at the corners of the line to adjust its angle. (Note: Shapes often have a separate handle, usually a dot, for rotation, but the reference specifically mentions blue dots for lines).

By selecting the drawing component and using the designated drag points (the element itself, blue boxes, or blue dots), you can effectively edit your drawings within Google Sheets.
