How do you add a password to Google Sheets?

Published in Google Sheets Security 1 min read

You can add a password, more accurately described as protection, to specific sheets or ranges within a Google Sheet. This prevents unauthorized users from editing the protected areas.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Select the data you want to protect. This could be a specific range of cells or an entire sheet.

  2. Click on Data > Protect sheets and ranges. This will open the "Protected sheets and ranges" menu on the right side of your screen.

  3. Click "+ Add a sheet or range."

  4. Choose what to protect:

    • To protect a range: Click "Range" and verify that the selected cells are correct. Adjust the range if needed.
    • To protect an entire sheet: Click "Sheet."
