How Do I Upload Custom Fonts to Google Slides?

Published in Google Slides Fonts 2 mins read

Unfortunately, Google Slides doesn't directly support uploading custom font files. You can't simply drop a .ttf or .otf file into Google Slides and start using it. However, there are a few methods to use more fonts than the default options:

  • Use Google Fonts: Google Slides seamlessly integrates with Google Fonts. You can add fonts from this library directly within the Slides interface. To do this, click the font dropdown, then select "More Fonts". This opens a dialog where you can search and add fonts to your Google Slides.

  • Use Add-ons: Some third-party add-ons in the Google Workspace Marketplace claim to offer expanded font options. Search the marketplace for font-related add-ons. Be cautious when installing add-ons and ensure they are from reputable developers, as they can request access to your Google account. As indicated in the reference text, you would install the add-on, then access it via the "Add-ons" menu to make use of its functionality. The add-on will typically appear as a sidebar where you can select different fonts.

  • Embed Fonts (Limited Use): If you are creating your text using another program (e.g., Adobe Illustrator) that allows for the use of custom fonts, and then import it as a .svg or .png, the font would appear correctly, but it would be an image and no longer be editable text.

In summary, while direct font uploading is not possible in Google Slides, you can enhance your font options through Google Fonts and third-party add-ons. Be mindful of the security implications when using add-ons.
