Adding fonts to Google Slides involves selecting from Google's extensive library available directly within the application, rather than uploading custom font files. The primary method focuses on utilizing the "More fonts" option.
Here's how you add fonts to your Google Slides presentation:
To expand the font selection beyond the defaults in Google Slides, you need to access the additional fonts provided by Google. This is done through the font menu within your presentation editor.
Here are the steps to find and add more fonts:
- Open your presentation in Google Slides.
Navigate to your Google Drive or go directly to slides.google.com and open the presentation you want to edit. - Select the text box where you want to use a new font.
Click on any text box or shape containing text. If you want to apply a new font to just a portion of text, highlight that specific text. - Go to the toolbar and click the Font drop-down arrow.
In the main toolbar, locate the font name (like 'Arial', 'Roboto', etc.) and click the small downward arrow next to it. This opens the standard font menu. - If you can't find the font that you want, click More fonts.
At the very top of the standard font drop-down menu, you will see an option labeled "More fonts...". Click this option.- A new window will open. This window allows you to browse and search the vast Google Fonts library.
Using the "More fonts" Window
Once the "More fonts" window appears, you can:
- Browse: Scroll through the list of available fonts.
- Search: Type the name of a specific font you're looking for in the search bar.
- Filter: Use the dropdown menus at the top to filter fonts by:
- Script: (e.g., Latin, Cyrillic, Greek)
- Style: (e.g., Serif, Sans Serif, Display, Handwriting, Monospace)
When you see fonts you like, click on them in the list. They will be added to the "My fonts" list on the right side of the window.
- Click OK once you have selected all the fonts you want to add to your presentation's font menu.
These newly added fonts will now appear in the standard font drop-down menu whenever you are working on this specific presentation, making them easily accessible for any text element.
Important Note: Google Slides allows you to access fonts from the Google Fonts library. It does not currently support uploading font files directly from your computer (.ttf, .otf, etc.). The "More fonts" feature provides access to thousands of free, open-source fonts readily available within the Google ecosystem.
By following these steps, you can significantly expand the font options available for your Google Slides presentations, making them more visually appealing and customized.
