Ixion attempted to seduce Hera, the wife of Zeus, in Greek mythology.
Ixion's story is a cautionary tale about abusing hospitality and disrespecting the gods. After being purified by Zeus for murdering his father-in-law, Ixion was invited to dine at Zeus's table on Olympus. Instead of showing gratitude, Ixion developed a desire for Hera.
Zeus, aware of Ixion's intentions, tested him by creating a cloud in the shape of Hera, known as Nephele. Ixion, unable to control his desires, succumbed to the illusion and coupled with the cloud. From this union, Centaurus was born, the ancestor of the Centaurs.
As punishment for his attempted seduction and betrayal of hospitality, Zeus banished Ixion to Tartarus, where he was bound to a perpetually spinning, fiery wheel. This eternal torment served as a symbol of his transgression and a warning to others.
