During this decade, hairdressers pioneered the highlighting process, notably through the use of a now-classic technique involving a plastic cap. This method involved securing a tight, plastic cap (often referred to as a skull cap) to the client's face and using a small hook to carefully pull thin strands of hair through the cap's perforations. These strands were then lightened to create the highlighted effect.
