Can hair stop growing?

Published in Hair growth 1 min read

Hair does not truly stop growing, but rather enters a resting phase where growth slows down significantly. This can happen due to various factors:

  • Age: Hair growth naturally slows down as we age, starting around age 50.
  • Disease and Deficiencies: Conditions like iron deficiency, hormonal imbalances, or certain medical treatments can disrupt hair growth.
  • Hormonal Changes: Hormonal fluctuations due to pregnancy, menopause, or thyroid issues can affect hair growth.
  • Hair Cycle: Each hair follicle goes through a growth cycle, and once the hair reaches the end of its cycle, it stops growing and sheds.

While hair growth might seem to stop, it's more accurate to say that it enters a resting phase. This phase can be triggered by various factors, and the hair will eventually start growing again.
