How do I tease my hair?

Published in Hair styling 2 mins read

Teasing your hair, also known as backcombing, is a technique used to add volume and texture. Here's how to do it properly, incorporating the advice from the provided YouTube video transcript:

Steps to Tease Your Hair

  1. Section Your Hair: Separate the section of hair you want to tease from the rest.

  2. Hold the Section Upright: Hold the section straight up.

  3. Backcomb: According to the reference, instead of aggressively pushing the brush all the way down, which can damage your hair, push the hair down a little, then take the brush out. Repeat this motion. In essence, you are pushing the hair down taking the brush out. This creates volume without causing as much damage.

  4. Create Texture: Continue this process to create the desired level of volume. This should create the base, and give you the lift and volume that you are looking for.

Important Considerations

  • Damage: Aggressively pushing the hair all the way down when teasing can lead to damage. Be gentle, and use the method of pushing down a little and removing the brush.
  • Removal: When you want to remove the teasing, be gentle to avoid breakage. Use a wide-tooth comb and plenty of conditioner to gently work out the knots.
