Is it OK to control a sneeze?

Published in Health 1 min read

While you might be able to control how loud you sneeze, it's not generally recommended to try and hold in a sneeze completely. Suppressing a sneeze can potentially lead to complications like a ruptured aneurysm, ear infections, neck pain, and even rib fractures.

The pressure from holding back a sneeze can also push irritants and mucus back into your sinuses, potentially causing sinus pain, congestion, and discomfort.

The best approach is to let the sneeze happen naturally, but cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or the crook of your elbow to prevent the spread of germs.
