How to Use Custom Ear Plugs?

Published in Hearing Protection 2 mins read

Using custom ear plugs correctly ensures optimal hearing protection and comfort. Here's a step-by-step guide:

  1. Prepare your ear plugs: Inspect your ear plugs for any damage or debris before each use. Ensure they are clean and dry. If you find it difficult, they normally come with a comfort cream to help them slide more easily into your ear canal.

  2. Position your ear: Gently pull your ear up and back (or up and outward) with your opposite hand. This will help straighten your ear canal and allow the earplug to slide in more easily. Plus opening your jaw will also help as this will widen your ear canal.

  3. Insert the ear plug: Carefully insert the ear plug into your ear canal with a slight twisting or rocking motion. The earplug should fit snugly but comfortably. Avoid forcing it in.

  4. Check the fit: Once inserted, gently press the earplug further in and hold it in place for a few seconds. Ensure it creates a tight seal to effectively block out noise. You should feel a sense of occlusion, where your own voice sounds louder in your head.

  5. Test the seal: Perform a seal test. With the earplugs in, make a loud noise, such as clapping your hands or snapping your fingers. If the earplugs are properly inserted, the sound should be significantly muffled. If not, remove and reinsert them, ensuring a better seal.

  6. Removal: To remove the ear plugs, gently twist them while pulling them out. Avoid yanking them out quickly, as this can damage your ear.

  7. Cleaning and Storage: After each use, clean your ear plugs with a mild soap and water. Allow them to dry completely before storing them in their protective case.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your custom ear plugs provide effective hearing protection and a comfortable fit.
