How to calculate pulse?

Published in Heart Rate Calculation 1 min read

You can calculate your pulse by feeling your heartbeat and counting the number of beats within a specific time frame. Here's how:

  1. Find your pulse: Use the pads of your index and middle fingers to gently press on the side of your neck (just under your jawline).
  2. Count the beats: Count the number of beats you feel for 15 seconds.
  3. Calculate beats per minute: Multiply the number of beats you counted by 4. This will give you your heart rate in beats per minute (bpm).

For example, if you count 20 beats in 15 seconds, multiply that by 4 to get 80 bpm.

Variations:

  • You can also count your pulse for 30 seconds and then multiply that number by 2 to get your heart rate in beats per minute.
  • Some prefer to count for a full 60 seconds, which eliminates the need for multiplication.

Important Note: If you experience any unusual or concerning heart rate fluctuations, consult with a healthcare professional for diagnosis and guidance.
