How do I add more water to my heating system?

Published in Heating System Maintenance 1 min read

To add water to your heating system, follow these steps to repressurize it:

  1. Locate the Filling Loop: This is usually a flexible, braided hose with valves at both ends, connecting the mains cold water supply to your heating system. It's often found near the boiler.

  2. Open Both Valves: Open up both valves so that they're in line with the pipe to allow cold mains water into the system. You should hear water flowing into the system.

  3. Monitor the Pressure Gauge: Watch the pressure gauge on your boiler. Wait for the water pressure to reach between 1 and 1.5 on the pressure gauge. This is the optimal pressure for most systems.

  4. Close Both Valves: Once it has, shut off both valves one after the other. Ensure both valves are fully closed.

  5. Check for Leaks: After repressurizing, check around the filling loop and boiler for any leaks.

By following these steps, you can safely add water to your heating system and bring it back to the correct pressure.
