How Do Self Closing Cabinet Hinges Work?

Published in Hinge Mechanism 1 min read

Self-closing cabinet hinges work by using a built-in spring to automatically pull the cabinet door shut.

Unlike typical hinges that usually only feature a pin in their knuckle, self-closing hinges incorporate a spring. This spring is located within the knuckle of the hinge. When the cabinet door is opened, the spring is engaged. As the door is released, the stored energy in the spring is used to gently pull the connected object – the cabinet door – back towards the closed position.

Essentially, self-closing hinges are able to close automatically by using a spring. This simple yet effective mechanism ensures that cabinet doors don't accidentally remain ajar, contributing to a tidier look and preventing minor bumps.
