Changing a light tube is a straightforward process, but it's important to handle it carefully to avoid breakage. Here's how you do it:
-
Safety First: Turn off the light fixture. This prevents electrical shock. Ideally, switch off the circuit breaker for added safety.
-
Prepare the Area: Have the replacement fluorescent tube ready and within easy reach.
-
Remove the Old Tube: Gently remove the existing fluorescent tube. It is important to handle the removal carefully.
- Place the tube gently out of the way, where it cannot roll or be disturbed. Dispose of properly based on local regulations for fluorescent bulbs (they often contain mercury).
-
Install the New Tube:
- Lift the new fluorescent tube into place.
- Line its prongs up with the slots in either socket.
- Push the tube straight up into the sockets.
- Rotate it 90 degrees until you feel it lock into place.
-
Test the New Tube: Turn the light fixture back on to ensure the new tube is working correctly. If it doesn't light, double-check the connections and ensure the tube is properly seated.
