Simple Vaseline and Powder Concealer

How to Make Concealer at Home

Making concealer at home is easier than you think! Several methods use readily available ingredients to create a custom shade and consistency.

This method is incredibly quick and uses only two ingredients:

  • Ingredients:

    • Vaseline (petroleum jelly)
    • Pressed powder (choose a shade that matches your skin tone)
  • Instructions:

    1. Scoop a small amount of Vaseline into a bowl or the palm of your hand.
    2. Gradually add pressed powder, mixing thoroughly until you achieve your desired consistency and color. The powder helps set the concealer and counteracts the Vaseline's oiliness.

This method is great for a quick fix, but the longevity and coverage might be limited compared to other options.

Oil-Based Natural Concealer

For a more natural and potentially longer-lasting concealer, consider this oil-based recipe:

  • Ingredients: (adjust quantities to your preference)

    • 1 teaspoon jojoba oil or argan oil
    • 1 teaspoon shea butter
    • Optional additions: castor oil, mango butter, aloe vera gel.
  • Instructions: (This method may require melting ingredients for better mixing)

    1. Combine ingredients in a small bowl.
    2. Gently heat ingredients (if solid) using a double boiler or microwave in short bursts until melted and combined.
    3. Let cool and then transfer to a small container.

This recipe offers more moisturizing properties than the Vaseline and powder method. Remember to test a small patch of skin for any allergic reactions before full application.

Clay-Based Concealer

A clay-based concealer offers better coverage and potentially a longer-lasting result:

  • Ingredients: (adjust quantities as needed)

    • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
    • 1/2 tablespoon mango butter
    • 1/2 tablespoon shea butter
    • 1 tablespoon white bentonite clay
    • 1 tablespoon arrowroot powder
  • Instructions:

    1. Melt the coconut oil, mango butter, and shea butter using a double boiler or microwave in short bursts until melted and combined.
    2. Add the bentonite clay and arrowroot powder gradually, stirring until a smooth paste forms. Adjust consistency by adding more oil or powder as needed.

Note: Bentonite clay can be drying; adjust the amount according to your skin type.

Important Considerations:

  • Hygiene: Always use clean utensils and containers when making homemade cosmetics to prevent contamination.
  • Storage: Store your homemade concealer in a cool, dark place.
  • Shelf Life: Homemade concealers generally have a shorter shelf life than commercially produced ones. Discard if you notice any changes in color, texture, or smell.
