How many ribs are in a female?

Published in Human Anatomy 1 min read

Most females have 12 pairs of ribs, resulting in a total of 24 ribs. This is the same number of ribs found in most males. However, there are some rare cases where individuals are born with extra ribs (supernumerary ribs) or missing ribs (agenesis of ribs).

The common misconception that women have one more rib than men stems from the biblical story of Adam and Eve, where Eve was created from Adam's rib. This is a religious belief and not a scientifically accurate statement.
