The primary muscle located in the shin is the Tibialis anterior.
This muscle is situated on the lateral side of the tibia (shinbone). It's thick and fleshy in its upper region and becomes more tendinous as it descends. The muscle fibers run vertically downwards, culminating in a prominent tendon that becomes visible on the front of the lower leg, about a third of the way up from the ankle. The Tibialis anterior is crucial for dorsiflexion (lifting the foot upwards) and inversion (turning the sole of the foot inwards).
