The kidneys are the organs that clean the blood and produce urine. They perform this vital function by filtering waste products from the blood.
How the Kidneys Clean Blood and Produce Urine
The kidneys filter blood through millions of tiny filtering units called nephrons. Each nephron is composed of:
- Glomerulus: A ball of small blood capillaries where initial filtration occurs.
- Renal Tubule: A small tube that further processes the filtered fluid, reabsorbing essential substances and secreting additional wastes.
Essentially, the kidneys remove urea, a waste product, from the blood. They regulate blood pressure and blood composition.
