Where is Frontalis?

Published in Human Anatomy 1 min read

The frontalis muscle is located in the forehead, specifically between the galea aponeurotica (a tough layer of dense fibrous connective tissue which covers the upper part of the cranium) and the skin of the eyebrows and upper nose.

In more detail:

  • Location: Forehead region of the skull.
  • Boundaries:
    • Superiorly: Connects to the galea aponeurotica.
    • Inferiorly: Blends with the muscles around the eyebrows (orbicularis oculi, corrugator supercilii, and procerus).
    • Laterally: Fades into the temporal fascia.

The frontalis muscle, also known as the occipitofrontalis muscle's frontal belly, lacks bony attachments. Its primary function is to raise the eyebrows and wrinkle the forehead skin, contributing to facial expressions.
