Where is the sacral?

Published in Human Anatomy 1 min read

The sacrum is located at the upper, back part of the pelvic cavity, situated between the two wings of the pelvis.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of its location:

  • Base of the Spine: It forms the base of the vertebral column.
  • Pelvic Cavity: It's positioned within the posterior aspect of the pelvic cavity.
  • Between the Pelvic Bones: It's wedged between the iliac bones (the "wings" of the pelvis), articulating with them at the sacroiliac joints.

Essentially, it's the triangular bone at the bottom of your spine, connecting the spine to the pelvis. The sacrum is formed by the fusion of five sacral vertebrae (S1-S5) typically between the ages of 18 and 30.
