The eyeball is the only body part that is fully grown from birth. While other body parts continue to grow and develop throughout childhood and adolescence, the eyeball reaches its full size at birth. This is why babies' eyes appear so large in proportion to their faces. As the baby grows, the rest of the face grows around the already fully developed eyeball, making the eyes appear smaller in proportion to the face.
