You can live without your spleen. The spleen is part of the lymphatic system and helps filter blood, but it's not essential for survival. The liver can take over many of the spleen's functions if it's removed.
Other organs you can live without include:
- One lung
- A kidney
- Your appendix
- Your gallbladder
- Your tonsils
- Your adenoids
- Some of your lymph nodes
- The fibula bones from each leg
- Six of your ribs
It's important to note that while you can live without these organs, removing them can have some consequences for your overall health. For example, removing a kidney can increase the workload on the remaining kidney.
