What are two functions of the skin?

Published in Human Biology 1 min read

The skin performs many vital roles in the body, two of which are:

  1. Protection: The skin acts as a barrier against harmful substances, such as bacteria, viruses, and chemicals. It also protects the body from ultraviolet radiation emitted by the sun.
  2. Temperature regulation: The skin helps maintain a stable body temperature through sweating and changes in blood flow. When the body is too hot, sweat evaporates and cools the skin. When the body is too cold, blood flow to the skin is reduced to conserve heat.
