A warm air vent is an outlet or opening, typically located in walls, floors, or ceilings, that delivers heated air into a room as part of a warm air heating system. It is essentially the point where warmth enters your living space from the heating unit.

In a warm air system, the air is heated directly by a furnace or air handler. This method is notable because it heats the air directly which results in a warm up time that's relatively quick compared to heating water for radiators. Once heated, the air is pushed through a system of ducts and exits into rooms through these vents.

How Warm Air Vents Function
