What Tablets Reduce Sweating?

Published in Hyperhidrosis Treatment 2 mins read

Some tablets can help reduce excessive sweating, a condition known as hyperhidrosis. The most commonly prescribed medication type are anticholinergics. These medications work by blocking signals from nerves that trigger sweat production.

Types of Anticholinergic Tablets for Sweating:

  • Propantheline bromide: This is an anticholinergic specifically licensed for treating hyperhidrosis.
  • Oxybutynin: While not specifically licensed for hyperhidrosis, this anticholinergic can be prescribed off-label if a doctor deems it appropriate.
  • Glycopyrronium bromide: Similar to oxybutynin, this anticholinergic may be used off-label to reduce sweating.
  • Glycopyrrolate: This anticholinergic is also sometimes used off-label to manage excessive sweating. It's available under brand names like Cuvposa.

Important Note: The decision to use any medication, including those listed above, should always be made in consultation with a doctor. They can assess your individual needs and determine the most appropriate treatment plan. These medications may have side effects, and your doctor will weigh the benefits and risks before prescribing. Additionally, while some sources mention cimetidine (used to reduce stomach acid) as potentially reducing sweating caused by certain medications like morphine, it's not a primary treatment for general hyperhidrosis.
