How Do I Edit an iCloud Backup?

Published in iCloud Backup Management 2 mins read

You can't directly edit an iCloud backup. iCloud backups are complete snapshots of your device's data at a specific point in time. They're not designed for selective editing. Instead of editing, you manage them by deleting old backups or creating new ones.

Managing Your iCloud Backups

Here's how you can manage your iCloud backups:

  • Deleting an iCloud Backup: To remove an old backup, follow these steps:

    1. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
    2. Tap iCloud Backup. You'll see a list of devices with iCloud Backup turned on.
    3. To delete a backup, tap the name of the device.
    4. Tap Turn Off and Delete from iCloud (or Delete & Turn Off Backup). This will delete the backup from iCloud's servers.
  • Creating a New Backup: The only way to "edit" your iCloud backup is to replace it with a newer one by updating your backup. Ensure your device is connected to Wi-Fi and power, then go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup and tap Back Up Now. This creates a fresh backup, overwriting the previous one.

Remember, always back up your data before making any significant changes to your device.
