How do I delete photos from iCloud?

Published in iCloud Photos Deletion 2 mins read

Deleting photos from iCloud involves accessing your iCloud Photos and removing the desired images or videos. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Steps to Delete Photos from iCloud

  1. Access iCloud Photos: Go to icloud.com/photos in your web browser.

  2. Sign In: If prompted, sign in using your Apple ID and password. This is the same Apple ID associated with your iCloud account.

  3. Select Photos/Videos:

    • To delete multiple items, select each photo or video you want to remove.
    • To delete a single item, double-click on the photo or video to open it.
  4. Delete: Click the Delete icon (usually a trash can icon).

  5. Recently Deleted Album: The deleted photos and videos are moved to the "Recently Deleted" album. They will be permanently deleted after 30 days, unless you manually remove them from that album sooner.

Managing the "Recently Deleted" Album

The "Recently Deleted" album acts like a recycle bin, giving you a chance to recover photos you might have accidentally deleted.

  • To permanently delete photos: Open the "Recently Deleted" album, select the photos, and choose to delete them permanently.
  • To recover photos: Open the "Recently Deleted" album, select the photos, and choose to recover them. This moves them back to your main Photos library.

Important Considerations

  • Syncing: Deleting photos from iCloud also deletes them from all devices connected to the same iCloud account with iCloud Photos enabled. Be absolutely sure you want to delete them from all devices.
  • Backup: If you want to keep a copy of your photos, consider downloading them to your computer or another external storage device before deleting them from iCloud.
  • Storage: Deleting photos frees up storage space in your iCloud account.
