How to Share an iCloud Photo Album?

Published in iCloud Photos 3 mins read

Sharing an iCloud photo album is simple and allows you to collaborate and share memories with friends and family. Here's how to do it:

Steps to Share an iCloud Photo Album:

  1. Open the Photos App: Launch the Photos app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Navigate to Albums:
    • On iPhone or iPad: Scroll down to the "Albums" section and tap on it.
    • On Mac: Look in the sidebar for "Shared Albums."
  3. Create a New Shared Album (if needed):
    • On iPhone or iPad: In the "Shared" section, tap the "+" button (usually located in the upper-left corner) and choose "New Shared Album."
    • On Mac: Click the "+" button at the top of the sidebar and select "New Shared Album."
  4. Name Your Album: Enter a descriptive name for your album. This helps others understand what the album is about (e.g., "Summer Vacation 2023," "Family Reunion").
  5. Invite People:
    • Tap "Invite People."
    • Enter the names, email addresses, or phone numbers of the people you want to invite. Make sure the email address or phone number is associated with the recipient's Apple ID for seamless integration.

Adding Photos to a Shared Album:

  1. Open the Shared Album: Navigate to the shared album you created.
  2. Add Photos:
    • Tap the "+" button (or a "Add" button) to add photos and videos to the album.
    • Select the photos and videos you want to include from your library.
    • Tap "Done" or "Post" to add them to the shared album.

Managing Shared Album Settings:

  • Subscribers Can Post: You can allow subscribers to add their own photos and videos to the album. To enable this, go to the "People" tab within the shared album's settings and toggle "Subscribers Can Post" to the on position.
  • Notifications: Enable notifications to be alerted when others add photos or comments to the album.
  • Public Website: You can make the shared album public and share a link to it. This allows anyone with the link to view the album (but not contribute unless "Subscribers Can Post" is enabled and they are invited). Be cautious when enabling this feature, as anyone with the link can see the photos.

Important Considerations:

  • iCloud Requirements: All participants must have iCloud enabled to participate in shared albums.
  • Storage: Shared albums don't count against your iCloud storage limit, which is a great feature!
  • Privacy: Carefully consider who you invite to your shared album, as they will have access to the photos and videos within it. Also be mindful before enabling the public website feature.
  • Deleting Photos: Any participant can delete photos from a shared album, so make sure everyone understands the importance of being mindful of the content.

By following these steps, you can easily share your cherished memories with friends and family through iCloud Photo Albums.
