You can create a gradient in Illustrator using the Gradient Tool and the Gradient panel. Here's how to do it:

Steps to Create a Gradient

  1. Select the Gradient Tool: First, click on the Gradient Tool from the toolbar.
  2. Apply to Object: Next, click on the object on your artboard where you wish to apply the gradient. This will activate the gradient on the selected object.
  3. Access Gradient Panel: Open the Gradient Panel to modify the gradient further.
  4. Choose Radial Gradient (Example): For a radial gradient, select 'Radial Gradient' from the options within the Gradient panel. Alternatively, you can also select 'Radial Gradient' from the 'Gradient options' in the Properties panel, as stated in the reference.

Gradient Types

Illustrator offers different types of gradients which can be accessed via the Gradient Panel:

  • Linear Gradient: This type transitions colors in a straight line.
  • Radial Gradient: Creates a circular color transition emanating from a center point.
  • Freeform Gradient: Provides more flexibility, allowing you to control color transitions at different points in an object.

Steps Action
1 Click the Gradient Tool.
2 Select the Object on the artboard.
3 Open the Gradient Panel.
4 Choose 'Radial Gradient' (or other type) from the Gradient or Properties panel.

By following these steps, you can successfully apply and customize gradients within your Adobe Illustrator projects.
