How do I Make Multiple Offset Paths in Illustrator?

Published in Illustrator Paths 2 mins read

To create multiple offset paths in Illustrator, you can use Astute Graphics' AG Offset tool, which offers more control and flexibility than the standard Offset Path feature. Here's how:

  1. Select the AG Offset Tool: Locate the AG Offset tool in the toolbar. It is typically stacked under the Stylism tool. If you don't have the Astute Graphics plugin, the standard Illustrator Offset Path function (Object > Path > Offset Path) will only create a single offset at a time, requiring repeated actions for multiple offsets.

  2. Hover and Preview: Hover your cursor over the path you want to offset. A preview annotation will appear, showing the potential offset.

  3. Click and Drag: Click and drag outwards (or inwards for negative offsets) from your path to initiate the AG Offset previews. You'll see multiple offsets being generated simultaneously, based on your drag distance and tool settings.

Without Astute Graphics:

If you do not have the Astute Graphics plugin, you will have to repeat the Object > Path > Offset Path command multiple times to achieve multiple offsets. The standard Illustrator functionality only creates one offset at a time.

  1. Select the path: Select the path you want to offset.
  2. Go to Object > Path > Offset Path: Choose this option from the menu.
  3. Set the offset: Enter the desired offset value.
  4. Repeat: Repeat steps 2 and 3 as needed, increasing the offset each time to create the desired number of multiple offset paths.
