How do you make custom shapes in Pixlr?

Published in Image Editing 2 mins read

You can't create truly custom shapes in Pixlr in the sense of drawing free-form vector shapes; however, you can manipulate the shapes available to you, using the shape tool. Pixlr provides a variety of basic shapes which you can adjust.

Here's how you work with the shapes tool:

  • Select the Shape Tool: Find and select the shape tool from the toolbar.
  • Choose a Shape: Select the specific shape you want to use, such as rectangle, circle, triangle, etc.
  • Click and Drag: Click and drag on your canvas to draw the shape. This will set the dimensions of the shape.
  • Release to Set: Release the mouse button once the shape is the desired size and position. This sets the shape on the canvas.
  • Adjust Outline: You can select the color and size of the outline for the shapes you've created, this lets you customize the appearance of the shape.

Examples

  • Resizing Shapes: After creating a shape, you can resize it using the transform controls that appear around it.
  • Rotating Shapes: You can also rotate shapes to your desired orientation using the same transformation handles.
  • Color Customization: Pixlr allows you to change both the fill color and outline color of your shape.

Limitations

It's important to understand that Pixlr offers preset shapes, so you cannot create custom vector shapes from scratch using freehand drawing with the tools. However, by using different combinations of the available shape tools, outlines, and colors, you can create varied designs.
