To undo an action in Adobe InDesign, use the Edit > Undo command or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Z (Windows) or Cmd+Z (Mac).
Undoing Actions in Detail
InDesign allows you to revert recent actions, providing flexibility and error correction in your workflow. The undo functionality works sequentially, meaning you can undo actions in the reverse order they were performed.
Steps to Undo
- Using the Menu: Go to the Edit menu at the top of the InDesign interface.
- Select Undo: Click on Undo. The menu item will indicate the last action performed, for example, "Undo Move" or "Undo Paste."
- Keyboard Shortcut: Press Ctrl+Z on Windows or Cmd+Z on Mac to undo the last action.
Redoing Actions
If you accidentally undo too many actions, you can redo them.
- Using the Menu: Go to the Edit menu and select Redo.
- Keyboard Shortcut: Press Ctrl+Shift+Z (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+Z (Mac).
Limitations
Keep in mind that the number of undo levels in InDesign is limited, although you can adjust this setting in preferences. Also, certain actions, such as saving a document, cannot be undone.
