To quickly hide outlines (or frame edges) in Adobe InDesign, use the keyboard shortcut Cmd + H (macOS) or Ctrl + H (Windows).
Hiding frame edges can help you visualize your design without the distraction of the bounding boxes around images, text frames, and other objects. It provides a cleaner view, similar to how the final output might look.
Hiding Frame Edges
The primary method to hide the outlines around frames in InDesign is via the keyboard shortcut or the View menu.
-
Using the Keyboard Shortcut:
- Press Cmd + H on macOS.
- Press Ctrl + H on Windows.
-
Using the Menu:
- Go to View > Extras > Hide Frame Edges.
When you hide the frame edges, those boxes disappear. However, when you float your mouse over any item on your page, you'll see the Box still appears. And when you click on it, it allows you to adjust it. This means the outlines are not permanently gone; they simply become invisible until you interact with an object, making it easy to select and modify items even when the outlines are hidden.
Showing Frame Edges Again
To bring the frame edges back into view, use the same shortcut or menu option:
-
Using the Keyboard Shortcut:
- Press Cmd + H on macOS.
- Press Ctrl + H on Windows.
-
Using the Menu:
- Go to View > Extras > Show Frame Edges.
This toggles the visibility of the frame outlines on your page.
