How Do I Change a Sketch in Inventor?

Published in Inventor Sketching 2 mins read

To change or edit a sketch in Inventor, you need to enter the **sketch environment**. This allows you to modify geometry, add or change dimensions, and make other alterations. There are several quick ways to access your sketch for editing directly within Inventor.

Here are the primary methods for changing a sketch:

## Methods to Edit a Sketch

You can easily access your sketch for modification using one of the following techniques:

*   **From the Browser:**
    * **Double-click** the specific sketch icon located in the Inventor browser tree. This is a common and direct way to activate sketch editing.
    * **Right-click** on the sketch name or icon in the browser tree and select **Edit Sketch** from the context menu. If it's a 3D sketch, choose **Edit 3D Sketch**.
*   **From the Graphics Area:**
    * **Right-click** directly on the sketch plane in the graphics area (the workspace where your model is visible) and select **Edit Sketch** or **Edit 3D Sketch** from the menu that appears.
    * **Right-click** on a visible **sketch dimension** displayed on the canvas in the graphics area and choose **Edit Sketch**. This is useful when you primarily need to adjust dimensions.

Once you perform one of these actions, Inventor will automatically switch to the sketch environment, indicated by the sketch tab appearing in the ribbon, allowing you to make your necessary changes.
