How to Connect Trackpad to iPad?

Published in iPad Connectivity 2 mins read

To connect a trackpad, like a Magic Trackpad, to your iPad, follow these simple steps:

  1. Ensure Your Trackpad is Ready: Make sure your Magic Trackpad is turned on and has sufficient battery charge. If it's a different brand, consult its user manual for powering it on.

  2. Enable Bluetooth on Your iPad:

    • Open the Settings app on your iPad.
    • Tap on Bluetooth.
    • Toggle the Bluetooth switch to the "on" position (green).
  3. Pair Your Trackpad:

    • Your iPad will now begin scanning for nearby Bluetooth devices.
    • Look for your trackpad (e.g., "Magic Trackpad") in the "Other Devices" list. If it's a new trackpad or one that hasn't been paired before, it should appear readily. If it was previously paired with another device, you may need to "forget" it on that device first to make it discoverable.
    • Tap on the name of your trackpad when it appears.
  4. Complete Pairing:

    • Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the pairing process. You may be asked to enter a PIN (though typically this isn't required for Magic Trackpads).
    • Once paired, your trackpad will move from the "Other Devices" list to the "My Devices" list, indicating a successful connection.

You should now be able to use your trackpad to navigate your iPad! You can customize the trackpad's settings (scrolling speed, click sensitivity, etc.) in Settings > Bluetooth > tap the "i" icon next to your trackpad's name.
