Published in iPad Security Setup 3 mins read

Adding Touch ID to your iPad 10th generation is a simple process that enhances security and convenience, allowing you to unlock your device, authorize purchases, and more with just your fingerprint. The Touch ID sensor on the iPad 10th generation is integrated into the top button.

Here's how to set it up, using the provided reference steps:

Setting Up Touch ID on Your iPad 10th Gen

Follow these steps to add a fingerprint and enable Touch ID on your device:

  1. Press Settings.
    • Open the Settings app on your iPad. This is the grey gear icon usually found on your Home Screen.
  2. Press Touch ID & Passcode.
    • In the Settings menu, scroll down and tap on Touch ID & Passcode.
    • You may be prompted to enter your existing passcode if you have one set up.
  3. Press Add a Fingerprint... and follow the instructions on the screen to add your fingerprint.
    • Tap Add a Fingerprint...
    • Your iPad will guide you through placing your finger on the top button repeatedly to register your fingerprint. You'll lift and rest your finger multiple times, adjusting the position slightly each time, to capture different parts of your fingerprint.
  4. Press Continue.
    • Once the initial scan is complete, you will usually be asked to adjust your grip to scan the edges of your finger. Follow the on-screen prompts and then tap Continue.
  5. Press the indicators next to the required settings to turn them on or off.
    • After successfully adding a fingerprint, you'll see options for what you can use Touch ID for. These typically include:
      • iPad Unlock: Use Touch ID to unlock your iPad.
      • iTunes & App Store: Use Touch ID to authorize purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store, and Apple Books.
      • Apple Pay: Use Touch ID to confirm Apple Pay payments.
    • Toggle the switches (indicators) next to the desired options to enable them.
  6. Step 6.
    • After configuring the settings in Step 5, the setup process is generally complete. You should now be able to use Touch ID for the functions you enabled. You can return to the Touch ID & Passcode settings at any time to add more fingerprints (up to five) or change your settings.

Important Considerations:

  • Ensure your finger and the top button are clean and dry during setup.
  • When using Touch ID, press the top button gently, but keep your finger on it until your iPad unlocks or authenticates.
  • You will still need your passcode sometimes, such as after restarting your iPad, after more than 48 hours since your last unlock, or after five unsuccessful Touch ID attempts.

By following these steps, you can quickly and easily add Touch ID to your iPad 10th generation and begin using your fingerprint for secure access and convenience.
