How to Change iPad Password?

Published in iPad Security 2 mins read

To change your iPad password, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap on "Touch ID & Passcode" (on older iPads) or "Face ID & Passcode" (on newer iPads with Face ID), or simply "Passcode" if you don't have either.
  3. Scroll down and tap "Change Passcode."
  4. Enter your current passcode.
  5. Tap "Passcode Options" if you want to choose a different type of passcode (custom alphanumeric code, custom numeric code, or 4-digit numeric code). If you're happy with the current type of passcode, skip this step.
  6. Enter your new passcode twice to confirm it.

That's it! Your iPad password has now been changed.

Important Considerations:

  • Security: Choose a strong and unique passcode that you don't use for other accounts. A longer passcode or an alphanumeric code is more secure than a simple 4-digit numeric code.
  • Forgotten Passcode: If you forget your passcode, you will need to erase your iPad and restore it from a backup. If you don't have a backup, you'll lose your data. Consider setting up iCloud Backup to avoid data loss.
  • Face ID/Touch ID: If you are using Face ID or Touch ID, changing your passcode will require you to re-enroll your fingerprint or facial scan.
  • Restrictions: If you are unable to change your passcode, it may be because your iPad is managed by an organization (e.g., school or work) and certain security restrictions are in place. Contact your IT administrator for assistance.
