How to Turn Off Ear Sensor on iPhone?

Published in iPhone AirPods 1 min read

You can turn off Automatic Ear Detection for your AirPods on your iPhone by going into your settings. This will disable the feature that automatically pauses audio when an AirPod is removed from your ear.

Here's how:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on your AirPods near the top of the screen. Note: Your AirPods must be connected to your iPhone to see them listed here. If you don't see them, make sure they are paired and connected.
  3. Toggle the "Automatic Ear Detection" switch to the off position. It will appear grayed out when disabled.

With Automatic Ear Detection turned off, your audio will continue playing even when you remove an AirPod from your ear.

Important Considerations:

  • This setting only applies to your AirPods. It won't affect the ear sensor functionality for the iPhone's proximity sensor during phone calls. That sensor cannot be disabled by the user.
