Touch ID's location depends on your iPhone model. It's either integrated into the Home button or the Power button (also called the Side button).
Touch ID Locations by iPhone Model:
-
Home Button: iPhones with a physical Home button (like iPhone SE 2nd gen and older, iPhone 8 and older) have Touch ID integrated directly into the Home button on the front of the device.
-
Power (Side) Button: Newer iPhone SE models (like the 3rd generation) and iPad Air (4th generation and later) incorporate Touch ID into the Power button, located on the side of the device.
How to Use Touch ID:
Regardless of its location, Touch ID lets you:
- Unlock your iPhone or iPad.
- Authorize purchases in the App Store, iTunes Store, and Apple Books.
- Use Apple Pay.
- Automatically fill in passwords and usernames in apps and websites.
- Access password-protected apps.
Setting up Touch ID:
To set up or manage Touch ID, go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode (or Settings > Touch ID on older iOS versions). From there, you can add fingerprints, rename fingerprints, and enable/disable Touch ID for various features.
