How to Reverse a Selfie on an iPhone?

Published in iPhone Selfie Settings 2 mins read

To reverse a selfie taken on your iPhone, you can easily toggle a setting within your device's camera settings. This setting controls whether your selfies are mirrored or not.

Mirroring Selfies: Understanding the Default Behavior

By default, your iPhone's front-facing camera mirrors the image you see in the preview. This means the selfie you see displayed before taking the picture is not the same as the final photo saved in your camera roll. The saved photo is flipped horizontally. Many users find this to be a desirable feature, as it accurately reflects how they see themselves in the mirror.

However, if you want to have your saved selfies match exactly what you see on the screen during the moment of capture, you can easily disable mirroring.

How to Disable Mirroring for Selfies

Here's how to disable the mirror effect and ensure your selfies are saved as seen:

  1. Open the Settings app: Locate the grey app icon with gear-shaped settings.
  2. Navigate to Camera: Scroll down and tap on the "Camera" option.
  3. Toggle Mirror Front Camera: Find the switch next to "Mirror Front Camera" and toggle it to the OFF position (the switch will be grey or white).

Now, your selfies will be saved without the mirroring effect, accurately replicating the preview you see in the camera app.

How to Reverse a Selfie After It's Taken

If you've already taken a mirrored selfie and want to reverse it, you can do so within the Photos app using the editing tools:

  1. Open Photos app: Find the app with the multicolored flower icon.
  2. Select the Selfie: Locate the selfie you want to reverse and tap it to open.
  3. Tap Edit: In the top right, you will see an "Edit" button.
  4. Use the Crop & Rotate Tool: This tool allows you to rotate the image 180 degrees, effectively reversing it. Note that this might also change the position of any text or details in the image.

By following these steps, you can manage how your iPhone saves your selfies, ensuring the final image accurately reflects your preference.
