How do I change the Touch ID sensitivity?

Published in iPhone Touch ID 2 mins read

You can't directly change the "sensitivity" of Touch ID. However, if you're referring to how long you need to touch the sensor for it to register, you can adjust the "Touch Duration" for Haptic Touch or 3D & Haptic Touch which may feel like you're adjusting the sensitivity. Here's how:

Steps to Adjust Haptic Touch/3D & Haptic Touch Duration:

  1. Open Settings: On your iPhone or iPad, locate and tap the "Settings" app.

  2. Navigate to Accessibility: Scroll down and tap on "Accessibility."

  3. Find Touch Settings: Within Accessibility, scroll down and tap on "Touch."

  4. Select Haptic Touch or 3D & Haptic Touch: Depending on your device model, you'll see either "Haptic Touch" or "3D & Haptic Touch". Tap on it.

  5. Choose Touch Duration: You'll see options for "Touch Duration." You can choose between "Fast" or "Slow."

    • Fast: Requires a shorter touch duration.
    • Slow: Requires a longer touch duration.

Explanation:

Changing the Touch Duration won't directly affect how well Touch ID recognizes your fingerprint, but choosing "Fast" or "Slow" will affect the time you need to hold your finger on the Touch ID sensor. A faster setting will react more quickly to your touch, and a slower setting will require you to hold your finger down for a slightly longer time.

Note: Some newer iPhones may not have the 3D Touch option. They use Haptic Touch instead, which functions differently and may not have the same pressure sensitivity. The above instructions will still apply in adjusting the "Touch Duration," but it won't affect actual "sensitivity" in terms of fingerprint recognition.
