It's generally not recommended to use Veet (or other hair removal creams) before an IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment.
Here's why:
-
Increased Skin Sensitivity: IPL works by targeting the pigment in hair follicles. Hair removal creams like Veet work by chemically dissolving hair at the skin's surface. This process can irritate and sensitize the skin. Using both close together may lead to an increased risk of burns, irritation, or other adverse reactions from the IPL treatment.
-
IPL Targets the Hair Follicle: IPL is most effective when the hair follicle is intact. Hair removal creams remove the hair from the surface but can also disrupt the hair follicle. Since the IPL needs the hair follicle as a target, using a hair removal cream beforehand reduces the effectiveness of the IPL treatment.
-
Recommended Hair Removal Method: The ideal method for hair removal before IPL is shaving. Shaving removes the hair from the surface while leaving the hair follicle intact. The root needs to be present under the skin so the laser can effectively target it.
Pre-IPL Preparation:
- Clean Skin: Ensure your skin is clean, dry, and free of oils, lotions, and makeup before your IPL session. Pat the area dry.
- Shave: Shave the treatment area 12-24 hours before your IPL session. This ensures the laser targets the follicle under the skin without burning the hair on the surface of the skin.
- Avoid Irritants: Refrain from using harsh products or treatments like exfoliating scrubs or chemical peels in the treatment area in the days leading up to your IPL session.
By following these guidelines, you can maximize the effectiveness of your IPL treatments and minimize the risk of adverse skin reactions.
