Published in Islam Burial Site 1 min read

Muhammad is buried in the city of Medina.

The burial location of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad is within al-Masjid al-Nabawi (the Mosque of the Prophet) in Medina, Saudi Arabia.

Specifically, his tomb is situated in the south-east corner of the mosque. This significant spot is marked by the distinctive Green Dome, a prominent landmark. The current structure of the Green Dome dates back to 1279 CE, having been built as an unpainted wooden cupola over the tomb at that time.

Understanding the burial site involves recognizing its location within one of Islam's holiest places:

  • City: Medina
  • Location within City: Al-Masjid al-Nabawi (Mosque of the Prophet)
  • Specific Area: South-east corner
  • Marker: Beneath the Green Dome

The Mosque of the Prophet itself has undergone numerous expansions over centuries, but the area containing the Prophet's tomb has remained central to its significance.
