How many heavens are there in Islam?

Published in Islamic Beliefs 1 min read

There are seven heavens in Islam.

Each of these seven heavens is described as being made of a different material and is the dwelling place for specific Islamic prophets. The concept of multiple heavens is derived from the Quran and Hadith, and is a significant aspect of Islamic eschatology (the study of the end times). While interpretations can vary slightly across different Islamic traditions, the core belief in seven heavens remains consistent.

These heavens are not simply geographical locations but are more accurately understood as spiritual realms, each surpassing the previous one in beauty and grandeur. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is believed to have ascended through all seven heavens during his Night Journey (Isra and Mi'raj).
