How big was Adam in Islam?

Published in Islamic Creation 1 min read

According to Islamic tradition, Adam was created to be exceptionally tall. The following details his height:

Based on a narration, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stated that Allah created Adam, making him 60 cubits tall. This narration comes from Abu Huraira (Sahih al-Bukhari). A cubit is an ancient unit of measurement, generally considered to be the length from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger. While the exact length of a cubit can vary, a common estimate is around 18 inches or 45.72 centimeters. Therefore:

  • 60 cubits * 18 inches/cubit = 1080 inches
  • 1080 inches = 90 feet

This suggests Adam's height was approximately 90 feet (around 27.4 meters).
