Is llama halal in Islam?

Published in Islamic Dietary Laws 1 min read

Yes, llama meat is considered halal in Islam if the animal is slaughtered according to Islamic guidelines or those of other Abrahamic religions.

According to Mufti Ildar Alautdinov of Moscow, llamas, belonging to the camel family, are permissible for Muslims to consume, provided they are slaughtered in accordance with Islamic or Abrahamic religious laws. This means the animal must be slaughtered by a Muslim, Jew, or Christian while invoking the name of God (Allah). The slaughtering method involves a swift, humane cut to the throat, severing the windpipe, esophagus, and carotid arteries.

Essentially, the permissibility hinges on the adherence to proper slaughtering techniques rather than the animal itself. As llamas are considered similar to camels, which are halal, their meat is also generally accepted as halal within Islamic dietary guidelines when slaughtered correctly.
