Sumayya, the wife of Yasir, is considered the first martyr in Islam.
According to the Wikipedia article "Yasir ibn Amir," Sumayya died while being tortured for her faith. Her husband, Yasir, was also tortured to death shortly after, becoming the second martyr in Islam. The Quraysh are recorded as being responsible for these deaths, staining their hands with Muslim blood.
